For nearly 30 years, Dr. Maureen O’Flanagan, DDS has been giving her patients something to smile about.
The Deerfield Beach dentist is dedicated to providing top-notch, professional care to her patients, while ensuring that each and every one has a healthy smile.
“I want their mouth to be healthy. If the mouth isn’t healthy it complicates everything else,” Dr. O’Flanagan said, adding that problems that arise in the mouth can pose problems in other areas of the body including the heart.
Dr. O’Flanagan got her start in dentistry at an early age. As a teenager, O’Flanagan cleaned instruments and assisted her father who was the first dentist in Deerfield Beach. From there, her passion for the profession flourished. After graduating Cardinal Gibbons Catholic High School, the Florida native attended college in New Orleans and then attended the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in San Francisco where she received her DDS degree.
As a woman in a male-dominated profession, Dr. O’Flanagan said she delved into related organizations and associations, becoming the first woman president of the Broward County Dental Association, the first woman president of the Atlantic Coast District Dental Association and first woman president of the Florida Academy of Dental Practice Administration, which is an exclusive group limited to 193 practices in the state of Florida focused on high-end quality dentistry.
In her practice today, patient care, she said, is what sets her and her professional staff apart.
“I focus on the patient. We try very hard to put [patients] at ease,” O’Flanagan said, adding that each patient is given the time and attention they deserve. The office is decorated in such a way to create more of a garden feel with fountains and other adornments to create a comfortable atmosphere. Dr. O’Flanagan, whose patients travel from as far as England and Mexico, is currently accepting new patients. She also offers tours for those who would like to acclimate themselves with the office before an appointment.
“I don’t mind answering any questions or discussing things with patients.”
Dr. O’Flanagan is a General Dentist specializing in cosmetic, restorative and preventative dentistry. Services include, but are not limited to, preventative care, professional cleanings and comprehensive exams, treatment of gum disease, teeth whitening procedures, denture reliners and repairs, partial and full dentures, restorative work, bridgework, crowns, implants, cosmetic dentistry, oral cancer screening and fluoride treatment.
“I do a lot of restorative,” she said. “I’ve done a lot of major restorative where you do entire arches either on natural teeth or implants.”
